White Snakeroot
Each flowering head is formed by a
cluster of about 25 tiny, white, disc flowers. Ray flowers are
absent. Involucral bracts are long, lance-shaped, and hairy.
Flowering heads are grouped in a highly-branched inflorescence.
Leaves occur in pairs on the stem and attach by a conspicuous
petiole. Leaves are ovate, and have well defined teeth that point
toward the leaf tip. The leaf is rounded at its base, and slightly
re-curved toward the tip. Large leaves are up to 5 cm wide by
15 cm long, or more. Stems typically lack hairs except near the
inflorescence. In woodlands in September and October. Native
