Blanket Flower
Flowering heads have distinctive,
bright, reddish ray flowers, with yellow tips, and are easily
recognized. The centrally clustered disc flowers are deep crimson
and yellow. Flowering heads are solitary on the stem. Involucral
bracts are narrowly lance-shaped, and covered with cottony- appearing
hairs. Stems and leaves also have hairs. Leaves are arranged
individually on the stem, and attach directly without a petiole.
The leaves are narrowly lance-shaped, and have smooth margins
that lack teeth. This species blooms from June to September,
and occurs in dry fields and prairie plantings. Native to N.
